Amiga, Commodore and Co. – These Games influenced Alex Suárez as a Child
Before GamesCoin Group CEO Alex Suárez came up with the idea for a revolutionary blockchain-based in-game currency, he was a game designer, founder and CEO of several game companies. Even a few years before that, though, he was just a gamer like so many of us. Alex grew up with games on Atari systems, the C64 or Amiga and associates many fond memories with this time, which may even inspire him to this day. Here are four of his favorite games from back then:
Galaxian (Namco, 1979, Arcade) was a very successful shoot’em up that was the first arcade game to use true RGB colors for display. “I played that in Spain as a seven- or eight-year-old with my brother. He was constantly working the fire button and I was steering. With this perfect teamwork, we could sometimes play for over half an hour with only 25 pesetas,” Alex recalls.
Another game was Kaiser (Ariolasoft, 1984, Atari ST, C64), a turn-based strategy game set in the 18th century and presented with text input and simple icons. “We played that in hotseat mode for nights on the C64.”
Also popular were the fast-paced futuristic sports game Speedball (Image Works, 1988, Amiga, Atari ST, C64, etc.) and Gauntlet (Atari Games, 1985, Atari Arcade), the first action role-playing game or hack and slay in which four could play simultaneously: “Gauntlet in co-op and on the Amiga Speedball in multiplayer 1vs1 mode: both great collaborative experiences.”
